Labor Dept.: Insurance Jobs Up in July

The insurance industry gained 3,500 jobs in July 2017 over June 2017.

The insurance industry gained 3,500 jobs in July 2017 over June 2017, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics figures released Aug. 4. The increase was 0.13% for July 2017 over June 2017, reports A.M. Best.

Data by insurance industry sectors are available only on an unadjusted basis for the prior month; seven of eight insurance sectors showed job increases in June 2017 over June 2016. This group was led by direct health and medical insurance carriers (up 3.22%); direct title insurance and other direct insurance carriers (up 2.50%); direct property/casualty insurers (up 1.58%); direct life insurance carriers (up 0.80%); insurance agencies and brokerages (up 0.69%); reinsurance carriers (up 0.40%); and third-party administration of insurance funds (up 0.11%). The lone sector showing a job loss was claims adjusting (down 0.85%).
