As the Senate reconvenes this week, the topic of tort reform will be on the agenda. The Class Action Fairness Act (S. 2062) would allow federal courts to more easily exercise jurisdiction over large, interstate class action lawsuits. After similar legislation was narrowly defeated last year, three Democrats in the Senate have agreed to vote in favor of the bill in exchange for particular modifications. S. 2062 may see Senate floor action next week. The bill is supported by business groups including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and opposed by consumer groups.
