PIA Participates in NCOIL Panel on Licensing

On July 20, NCOIL held a special State-Federal Relations Committee meeting to address producer and company licensing post Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA). The discussion focused on achieving the goal of uniformity in the nonresident licensing process. It also aimed to raise awareness and implement solutions to the problem of states’ noncompliance with the Producer Licensing Model Act (PLMA).

During the discussion, we made it clear that PIA is opposed to federal regulation, we support the goal of uniformity and will work with NCOIL, the NAIC, and other interested parties to steer states towards compliance with GLBA.  The Chairman of NCOIL’s State-Federal Relations Committee, Representative Craig Eiland, from Texas, facilitated the discussion.  PIA National Director of State Affairs David Eppstein participated on the panel letting the legislators know that this is a very high priority issue for our members.

Other panelists included: Neil Alldredge, National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC); Wes Bissett, Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA); John Gerni, American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI); Paulette Solinski, Aon Corporation and Commissioner Susan Voss, Iowa Insurance Division participated via conference call.
