Auerbach Lauds PIA Stance at White House Meeting

PIA National President Kenneth R. Auerbach, Esq., in his latest President’s Letter, comments on PIA’s role in a pivotal White House meeting that preceded the decision by the Treasury Department to leave state regulation of insurance intact in its regulatory reform proposal.

“PIA used its participation in that White House meeting well. Len Brevik, our CEO, spoke out most forcefully in support of state regulation of insurance and in opposition to federal regulation, while other groups were advocating an optional federal charter,” Auerbach writes. “Apparently, Administration officials concluded that there is no consensus within the industry on OFC, which happens to be true.”

“Having worked on Capitol Hill, I know that sometimes there is a tendency by some groups to soften their views or develop a case of organizational laryngitis at pivotal meetings such as these, in order to ensure that they get invited back,” Auerbach continued. “I am proud that PIA stood its ground in this setting and gratified that our forthright presentation of our views may have contributed to federal insurance regulation being excluded from the Treasury’s recommendations.  Well done!”
