PIA’s Roadmap to State Regulatory Modernization was very well received during the just-completed NAIC summer meetings in San Francisco. The PIA Roadmap was unveiled in a special edition of PIA Connection, which was distributed at the NAIC meetings.
“The positive reaction to our regulatory roadmap from the state regulators was very gratifying,” said PIA National Immediate Past President Donna Pile. Pile is PIA National’s representative to the NAIC’s Producer Licensing Coalition and testified on the topic before Congress in April. “The comments I received were along the lines of ‘This roadmap brings some clarity to modernization and what we have to do to get there.’ We at PIA want to support our regulators, so that we can maintain our state based system and we are happy to lead that charge with NAIC’s support. We appreciate their support of our comments on how to move forward.”
PIA National President Robert Page commented that the PIA Roadmap to State Regulatory Modernization is just what is needed at this point. “This focuses everyone’s attention – PIA affiliates, PIA members and our entire industry – directly on what is needed now, in a positive way. It also demonstrates that our path brings about true modernization that also protects the rights, authority and revenue of the states. In addition, it shows that proposals like the Optional Federal Charter and the Office of Insurance Information are merely diversions, designed to bring about federal insurance regulation.”
