Flood Insurance Program Reauthorization Passes, FEMA Issues Bulletin

On Tuesday March 2, 2010 the U.S. Senate passed a short reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The reauthorization is effective through March 28, 2010. The extension was not made retroactive at this time; however, Congress is considering legislation that would make it retroactive.

FEMA has just issued a memo that includes additional technical guidance for agents regarding the processing of flood policies affected by the recent 2-day hiatus (March 1-2) during which the NFIP was not authorized.

Also, Brian Prejean, PIA of Louisiana President, was interviewed Monday by the ABC-TV affiliate in Baton Rouge during the time that the flood insurance program had expired. Brian comments on the impact of the expiration to his agency and clients.
